The Motor King ambulances on display at the premises of the U/E Regional Health Directorate ready to be distributed
The Korean International Co-operation Agency (KOICA) has presented 80 motorcycle (Motor King) ambulances to the Upper East Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service to improve healthcare delivery services at the local community level.
The motor cycle ambulances are to be distributed to Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds across all the 15 municipal and district assemblies (MDAs) in the region.
Making the presenting in Bolgatanga, the Country Director of KOICA, Yukyum Kim, hoped the motorcycle ambulance would help improve maternal and neonatal healthcare in the region.
He said KOICA was implementing a new health project dubbed, “Project for Improving Community-Based Primary Health Care through CHPS Strengthening (CHPS Plus).”
Mr Kim said the project being implemented in the region through the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and other collaborators was contributing significantly to the improvement of health service deliveries in the region.
He was hopeful that the motorcycle ambulances would help improve upon sustainable emergency referral care system, and thereby help curb maternal and child deaths often associated with lack of means of transport.
Receiving the motorcycle ambulances, the acting Upper East Regional Minister, Frank Adongo Fuseini, commended the KOICA for complementing government’s effort to deliver healthcare services to the doorsteps of the people in communities across the region.
Mr Fuseini, who is the Member of Parliament for the Zebilla Constituency was also grateful to the Korea government for supporting the establishment and the equipment of the neonatal intensive care units in some of district hospitals in the region as well as training of 45 community health officers.
