The Shalom Indigenous Foundation (SIF), a charitable wing of the Bible Baptist Church in Madina, at the weekend presented assorted items worth over GH¢2,000 and cash to Nectar Foundation, an orphanage at Nuaso, a suburb of Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region.
The items include bales of used clothing, Biblical literatures, two mini-sized bags of organic rice, loaves of bread and an unspecified amount of money for the upkeep of house members of the orphanage.
The presentation was done with support from the Grace Baptist Mission, Ghana and USA.
The president of SIF, Reverend Noah T. Quarshie, said the gesture formed part of the foundation’s continuous contribution towards minimising the plight of the less- privileged in the country.
According to the reverend, such contributions provided some level of respite to children in such homes and with the knowledge that others people also cared about their situation, and emphasised the need for children to be brought up in a godly manner, so that they would mature into responsible and God fearing adults.
Rev. Quarshie stressed the need for parents to take special interest in moulding and shaping of their children, to ensure a sound moral fibre.
Madam Elizabeth Portophy who received the items on behalf of management of Nectar Foundation, thanked SIF for the gesture and assured that the items would be put to good use.
She said the orphanage, home to 36 children was established in 2002 with the aim of providing solace and shelter to children who unfortunately don’t have people to care for them.
According to Madam Portophy, the management of the orphanage also provided the educational and health needs of the children aside shelter and food, and appealed to various organisations to support their operations.
