A 58-year old businesswoman was shot dead by armed robbers in her shop in Accra last Saturday.
Mrs. Veronica Aikins Mensah, who is Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) prepaid vendor was shot in the head and died on the spot.
The robbers were reported to have bolted with an unspecified amount of money from the shop of the deceased whose remains have been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) George Alex Mensah confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times in Accra, yesterday.
He said Police personnel had been dispatched to the scene to commence investigations.
The Commander said initial investigations revealed that at about 8:30p.m two armed robbers arrived at the shop, one entered and shot the woman and bolted with the money.
DCOP Mensah said, the Police would leave no stone unturned to arrest the perpetrators to face the law.
He called on the public to provide reliable information to the Police to arrest the culprits.
The husband of the deceased, Ignatius Aikins Mensah, told the Ghanaian Times that on that fateful day, his wife left the house to visit her sister at Tema and later arrived at the shop at 6pm to collect the daily sales.
He said while at the shop with two other workers one of the robbers got down from the motorcycle, entered the shop and asked the deceased to surrender all the money.
Mr Mensah said while in the process of giving the money to him, he shot her in the forehead killing her instantly.
