Mr. Akuffo sharing goodies to the pupils
The Shai Osudoku District Assembly is to re- introduce the best teacher awards scheme for the area.
The scheme will reward schools and pupils that excel at the Basic Entrance Certificate Examination (BECE) and other activities that promote education in the district.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Daniel Akuffo, said this after touring some public schools in the district last Monday as part of “my First Day at School programme.
The awards has not been held for the past five years and the DCE said he “sees it as a great disincentive to teaching and learning as such must be revived.”
The tour was to formally welcome new entrants into the formal school system towards making the occasion enticing and memorable one for the pupils.
They were presented with educational materials and some goodies to enable the pupils to see the school environment as friendly and supportive.
According to Mr Akuffo, the improvement in the BECE results called for more motivation to all parties in the educational system to ensure better results during the next examination.
“Schools with better results would be honoured together with their subject’s teachers while pupils with single digit results would be supported during their Senior High School education, he added.
He urged parents to send their children to school at the tender ages to enable them effectively explore the school environment to their advantage
Mr Akuffo stated that the government had created an enabling environment for every child to be in school, warning that any parent who refuses to send the child to school would be severely sanctioned.
The basic schools visited include, the Dedenya Basic, Mueter Basic, Asutsuare Estates Basic and the Osudoku Senior High School (SHS) where he interacted with the first batch of the Double Track Students.
The MCE advised the students to reciprocate the government’s free education policy by studying very hard to be the proud pioneers of the new system.
“You do not have any excuse to fall by the way side; the government is providing every facility the onus lies on you to make good use of this opportunity in order to be countered among the best beneficiaries of caring government policies,” he said.
