The newly elected Co-Chairman of the Abossey Okai Spare parts Dealers Association (ASDA), Mr Siaw Ampadu has asked its members to guard against allowing their front to be divided.
According to him, the association and its entire membership stood to benefit as a united group than a divided one, stressing that “the politicians are aware of this and so will do everything in their powers to divide our front to cause disunity among us.”
Mr Ampadu issued the warning when he delivered his maiden address as the Co-Chairman of the association after the swearing in ceremony of the newly elected executives in Accra yesterday.
The other executives are Mr Clement Boateng also co-chairman, Mr Peter Kwabena Ampomah, 1st vice chairman, Mr Adjei Mireku, 2nd vice chairman and Nana Frimpong, Nana Dankyi Berko and Paul Ansah, secretaries.
The rest are, Mr Francis Anom, Eric Antwi, Eric Crentsil and Nana Peprah, Agnes Agyemang Boateng, public relations officers and financial secretaries respectively.
Mr Abraham Fianu, George Asiedu, Ben Nana Adjin, Sampson Quainoo, Joseph Kofi Acheampong, Stephen Debrah and Rose Owusu and Gifty Oppong as well as Mr. Ekow Baffour Essilifie were sworn in as organisers, women executives and treasurer respectively.
Mr Ampadu said “The current situation in Abossey Okai is a big challenge to us as traders. There is no sanity in Abossey Okai and indiscipline is on the highest level as a result the politicians are exploiting that to divide our front and we must guard against that.”
He said one area that would receive a lot of attention from their administration would be the issue of sanitation emphasising that “You all agree with me that sanitation in Abossey Okai is unpleasant. Under the leadership of myself and my co-chairman, I can assure you my brothers and sisters that within a few months after assumption of office, it will be a thing of the past.”
The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, Mr Ebenezer Nartey who graced the occasion, urged the spare parts dealers to comply with the regulatory requirements of their business and the necessary operating permits in other to avoid costly penalties or other interruption of their operations for non-compliance.
In addition, he cautioned members of the association not to be partisan and allow them to be influenced by politicians but unite for the betterment of their business.
Mr Nartey also used the occasion to advise the elected executives to be tolerant to the views of their members if they were to serve with integrity.
