Five suspected armed robbers were killed at Denkyira Akwaboso in the Upper Denkyira West district of the Central Region, after they engaged some members of the community in a shootout, last Friday.
The robbers were said to have attempted to rob some people in the town, resulting in a gun battle between them and residents of Denkyira Akwaboso.
Deputy Central Region Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie, who confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times, said two of the robbers, a male and a female, sensing danger, fled the scene.
He said that the Diaso District Police Command at about 6:15 am, last Friday, received information from Denkyira-Akwaboso that a group of armed robbers had attempted to rob some residents.
Insp Ettie said the police also received report that five of the robbers were killed in a gun battle with the residents.
According to him, when the police proceeded to the scene, they found the bodies of five young men on the ground.
Insp Ettie said various degrees of gun shots wounds were found on all the bodies,
and two locally manufactured guns and 14 empty cartridges were found at the scene.
He said residents identified one of the robbers as Attah, a hardened armed robber, who operated within the community and was on the Diaso Police wanted list.
The bodies, he said, were conveyed to Sefwi-Bibiani Government hospital mortuary for preservation, identification and autopsy.
