Interior Ministry cracks whip on private security organisations

The Ministry for the Interior will today commence a nationwide monitoring and inspection exercise on the activities of private security organisations, locksmiths (key cut­ting) and rubber stamp and seals operators to ensure compliance of laws governing their operations.

In this regard, it has advised all players within the sector to register or renew their licenses to regularise their operations with the ministry to avoid sanctions.

To be conducted in collabo­ration with the Ghana Police Ser­vice, the exercise is also intended to help facilitate the streamlining of operations of players within the sector and allow the minis­try gather data to inform deci­sion-making.

Additionally, it will further sensitise the public on services and opportunities in the sector as well as provide an avenue for the ministry to interface with new and existing clientele and the general public.

This was contained in a state­ment signed and issued in Accra yesterday, by Doreen P. Annan, Chief Director, Ministry for the Interior.

“The move to conduct a nationwide monitoring exercise by officials of the ministry in conjunction with the Ghana Police Service, is critical to ensure com­pliance to the laws which consti­tutes the legal basis of the services rendered by the ministry,” it noted.

In addition, the statement said the ministry would be expanding its publication of service providers in good standing on its website to include the national newspapers and social media.

“This would go a long way to sanitise the operations of the service providers and improve the security consciousness of the general public,” it stated.

As a ministry mandated to en­sure internal security in the coun­try, the statement said the ministry was committed to guaranteeing law and order, peace and security to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and boost the country’s economy.
