FINANCE Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has stated that 2025 will be remembered as a defining year in Ghana’s economic recovery, describing it as a period when government reversed fiscal stress and restored macroeconomic stability.
He said 2025 would be remembered as a defining year in Ghana’s economic recovery, during which the government reversed severe fiscal challenges and rebuilt economic buffers to support growth.
In a social media post on Saturday, Dr Forson outlined the administration’s major macroeconomic achievements, noting that the government assumed office at a time when the economy was under significant strain.
He explained that government inherited an economy marked by high inflation, rising public debt, weak foreign exchange reserves, and the absence of fiscal buffers.
“We inherited deep fiscal stress, high inflation, rising debt, and non-existent buffers, and we chose to act,” he said.
According to the Finance Minister, government pursued bold reforms and disciplined economic management, stabilising the economy, restoring investor and public confidence, and placing Ghana on a path of renewed growth.
“Through bold reforms and disciplined management, we stabilised the economy, restored confidence, and reignited growth,” he added.
Dr Forson noted significant improvement in key macroeconomic indicators, including sharp declines in inflation and interest rates, strengthened foreign exchange reserves, a reduction in public debt, and a 40.6 per cent appreciation of the Ghana Cedi against the US dollar.
These gains, he said, demonstrated the impact of decisive reforms and disciplined fiscal management.
