More than 400 vulnerable individuals in Accra have benefited from a feeding exercise organised by the Aircraft Accidents and Incidents Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB) as part of activities marking its fifth anniversary.
The beneficiaries, drawn largely from Agbogbloshie, Madina and surrounding communities, received food packages in what the Bureau described as a deliberate effort to share its milestone celebration with the less privileged in society.
Speaking during the outreach, the Commissioner of AIB, Mr John Wunborti, said the decision to feed the needy was rooted in gratitude and a recognition of the collective support that had enabled the Bureau to record significant achievements over the past five years.
“We are celebrating an achievement, and we only achieved what we have achieved because of the support of stakeholders and the people of Ghana. It is only fair that as we celebrate, we reach out to the vulnerable and say thank you,” Mr Wunborti said.
He explained that the anniversary celebration was not only about institutional growth, but also about reaffirming the Bureau’s commitment to national service and social responsibility.
According to him, vulnerable persons were an integral part of Ghanaian society and deserved to be included in moments of national and institutional celebration.
Mr Wunborti disclosed that between 400 and 500 people were fed during the exercise, describing it as a modest but meaningful way of extending the Bureau’s impact beyond its core aviation safety mandate.
He used the occasion to call on corporate bodies and public sector institutions to adopt similar gestures when marking milestones, noting that success in both the public and private sectors was largely driven by the support and trust of the Ghanaian people.
“Whatever you have achieved is because Ghanaians supported you. You have the opportunity to serve because the people gave you that mandate. When we celebrate, it should be with them, especially those who are vulnerable,” he added.
The feeding exercise formed part of a series of activities planned to commemorate AIB’s five years of operations, during which the Bureau has played a critical role in investigating aircraft accidents and incidents and promoting aviation safety in the country.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the kind gesture, saying it made them feel included in the celebration of the Bureau’s milestone.
