2018 AWCON draw: Ghana get Algeria, Mali and Cameroon in Group A

Ghana's quest to win the 2018 Women's Africa Cup of Nations will begin with matches against Algeria, Mali and Cameroon in Group A.

The Black Queens will face Algeria in the opening match on November 17 in Accra. They will later host Mali on 20^th November and then face Cameroon three days later.

Ghana have never won the women's continental title but have been losing finalists on three occasions - 1998, 2002 and 2006.

Cameroon are looking to go one step better than when they hosted the tournament two years ago where they were runners-up to Nigeria.

Other teams in the group, Algeria and Mali will be hoping to improve on their previous showings in the tournament. The two have never reached the medal zone. 

Defending champions Nigeria, who have won the tournament a record ten times, are in Group B and will face South Africa, Kenya and Zambia.

Kenya earned their place in the finals when former winners Equatorial Guinea were disqualified for fielding six ineligible players in final qualifying round.

The tournament is set to kick off on 17^th  November with the final set for December 1. 

 

 

The top three finishers will qualify to represent Africa at the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2018.
