The 2019 graduating class of The Roman Ridge School (TRRS) in Accra, on Thursday, June 20, handed over a newly renovated washroom block to the Dzorwulu ‘A’ & ‘B’ Primary School.
The project is a tradition at TRRS, whereby each Graduating Class embarks on a year-long service project in an effort to give back to the community, before heading off to university, explained Principal of the school, Mrs Valerie Mainoo.
According to her, the Class of 2019 had established a relationship with Dzorwulu A & B Primary School through the TRRS Ridge Readers Club, a literacy outreach programme spearheaded by TRRS students.
She said, over the years, students from the Class of 2019 have enjoyed visiting and reading with the children of Dzorwulu A & B Primary each week, making them an obvious choice for their Graduation Class Project.
Speaking on behalf of her classmates, Maame Afia Bonsu expressed their joy in being able to help provide a reliable water supply for the school, refurbish their washroom facility and install both ceiling fans and lights in all the classrooms, for their young friends.
Ms. Bonsu disclosed further that they had made provision for a maintenance budget to cater for any repair works that might be needed in the coming year.
She acknowledged the contributions of the entire TRRS community, who supported their fundraising efforts and made this project a reality through their generous donations.
The Headmistress of Dzorwulu A & B Primary, Ms. Anna Appiah, expressed her gratitude to the Graduating Class of 2019 and The Roman Ridge School for the support they continue to show for the children.
She stated that these improvements to their school environment will go a long way to make the children’s time in school more comfortable and conducive for learning; encouraging them to give off their best.
The pupils of Dzorwulu A & B Primary and TRRS then had the opportunity to tour their new washroom block and expressed their excitement about the new facilities, while enjoying the opportunity to interact and catch up.
