Commey wants another shot at Easter
Ghanaian lightweight Richard Oblitey Commey will have to go through Alejandro Luna if he is to get another shot at IBF title held by Robert Easter.
According to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, the talented Ghanaian who lost a closely fought decision to Easter in 2016 when the two contested the then vacant title will have another chance at the title if he beats the undefeated Luna.
The representatives for Commey (25-2, 22 KOs), 30, and Luna (22-0, 15 KOs), 26, are trying to finalize a deal for an elimination bout that would make the winner the mandatory challenger for the world title held by Robert Easter.
Luna accepted a position in the eliminator after Commey’s eliminator against Russia’s Roman Andreev (20-0, 14 KOs) was canceled. They were due to fight Dec. 9 in Kemerovo, Russia but Andreev promoter Vlad Hrunov defaulted on his deal with Commey promoter Lou DiBella.
The IBF then went down its rankings until Luna accepted the fight. The IBF wants DiBella and Luna promoter Tom Brown to conclude their negotiations by the end of business Monday or a purse bid will be ordered.
A deal is likely to be made without the need for a purse bid, however.
