Award-winning Ghanaian reggae-dancehall star, Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy, has disclosed that he has no immediate plans to pursue a political ambition. According to him, his current position as a musician gives him the necessary influence to impact the lives of Ghanaians without necessarily becoming a political figure.
His comment comes amid the victory of some key figures in the entertainment industry during the recent 2024 parliamentary elections.
Notable among them are actor John Setor Dumelo, who won on the ticket of the NDC in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, and Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), who also won as an independent candidate in the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat in the Central Region.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM, Stonebwoy stated:
I believe that being a musician is one of the very biggest platforms that you can also have, because imagine, God bless Stonebwoy to this level where you have power already. You are working to maintain and sustain power already, so in that capacity, you can still do the Lord's work or the public work.
He, however, noted that he does not rule out future political ambitions should the need arise.
You can't tell it all what is in your destiny line. But once as you continue to equip yourself, then I think whatever happens, you are as ready as the opportunity that comes your way. Because I find myself in a service line where I serve the people.
I believe that with music, with my lifestyle, people look up to you. So that's a part, that's a form of service for nation. So if it has to get to that aspect where we'd have to assume any political space, then I think that would be right at that time.
In a related development, actor and musician Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has revealed his intention to contest as a Member of Parliament in the 2028 general election. According to him, he plans to run as an independent candidate in the Afigya Kwabre North constituency, aiming to unseat the incumbent MP, Collins Adomako-Mensah.
In a recent media interview, Lil Win emphasised the need for more youth presence in the house of legislature and expressed confidence in winning the seat.
