Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Ogum believes his team deserved to win their game against Medeama SC at the TNA Sports Stadium in Tarkwa on Sunday afternoon.
The Porcupine Warriors managed to secure a 1-1 draw in match week 16 of the 2024-2025 Ghana Premier League. Kotoko, who were aiming to extend their winning streak to five games, took the lead just before halftime when forward Kwame Opoku scored in the 44th minute.
Despite their early advantage, Kotoko couldn’t hold on to the lead as Medeama SC’s Mamudu Kamaradin equalised in the 68th minute, rewarding the Mauve and Yellows for their persistence.
The draw lifted Asante Kotoko above their archrivals, Accra Hearts of Oak, on the league table, with both teams tied at 28 points.
Speaking after the match, Prosper Ogum expressed disappointment at not securing all three points, stating that his team played well enough to win.
The scoreline is not a true reflection of the game. We had several chances and should have won the game
Kotoko’s title chase still on track
Despite the draw, Asante Kotoko remain firmly in the hunt for the Ghana Premier League title. Their recent form has been impressive, bouncing back from a 0-2 loss to Nations FC with consecutive victories over Aduana FC, Accra Hearts of Oak (1-0), Dreams FC, and Bibiani Gold Stars before the Medeama clash.
What’s next for Asante Kotoko?
The Porcupine Warriors will now turn their attention to their next game against Visions FC in the Ghana Premier League. A victory in that match could propel them to the top of the league table, further boosting their title aspirations.
