President John Dramani Mahama has restructured his administration's ministries, reducing their number from 30 to 23. This decision was taken through an Executive Instrument (E.I.) signed on Thursday, 9th January 2025.
This move aligns with his campaign promise to establish a lean government with only 60 ministers.
The E.I., issued under Section 11(3) of the Civil Service Act, 1993 (P.N.D.C.L. 327), introduced notable changes, including the division of the Ministry of Youth and Sports into the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment. Additionally, the Local Government Ministry has been merged with the Chieftaincy Ministry.
