A woman identified as Yaa Esther is reportedly drowned in the Densu river at New Asuoyaa in the Akuapem North municipality of the Eastern region.
The woman believed to be about 48 years, allegedly drowned whiles crossing the river.
Eyewitness say, the incident occurred Thursday evening around 6:30pm but several search proved futile hence the local search team is continuing the search of the body of the deceased.
The incident brings to bare broader spectrum of challenges facing the residents predominantly peasant farmers in the New Asuoyaa Community.
Until a year ago, residents in the community including school children had to ‘swim’ in the Densu river to farms and school.
Highlight of the plight of the people by the media led to provision of a locally made boat by Multimedia to ferry the residents.
Ultimate News’ Baah Acheamfuor reported that residents have to walk through the river to the next bank while carrying their goods to continue to their destinations, because the boat does not function well whenever the water level is low.
