The Tumu Police in the Upper West have arrested three men who engaged in a shootout with them on Tuesday night.
A source at the Tumu Police Station tells Ultimate News that the three men exchanged fire with them when they tried arresting them on suspicion of being armed robbers.
The incident which occurred at Kunchoko a village near Tumu in the Sissala East district saw the police exchange fire with the suspects for several hours before they were over powered.
According to the source, the suspects whose names have not been given yet blocked the Tumu-Navrongo road attacking users of the road until the police were called in leading to the exchange of fire.
Police in the area have been battling with robbers on the highways in the Tumu area which is close to neighbouring Burkina Faso for the past couple of months.
So far, about 4 suspects have been arrested in the area for their involvement in various robbery incidents.
