At the commemoration of its 10th anniversary, the Chartered Insurance Ladies Association Ghana (CILAG) has held a service of Christmas carols and thanksgiving. Newly elected executives for the Association were also inducted at the event, which was held in the evening of Thursday, December 18 at the auditorium of the National Insurance Commission, which is Ghana’s insurance industry regulator.
The main sponsors for the event were WAICA Reinsurance and Hollard Insurance.
The newly inducted CILAG executives include: Naa Yeye Adumuah, the NIC’s Regional Manager for the Central Region, who was re-elected as the Association’s President for a second two-year term; Schneider Akomegning Boadu, Chief Operations Officer of Hedge Risk Consult, as Vice President; Jane Afua Deru, General Manager of First Anchor Risk Management & Insurance Brokers, as General Secretary; Muriel Ama Ashong, the Deputy Head, Retail Operations Department, as Assistant General Secretary; and Priscilla Kyei, Customer Care Supervisor of SIC Life as Financial Secretary.
The others are: Linda Dzilenyo, Senior Claims Officer at Priority Insurance who has been elected as Assistance Finance Secretary; Nana Nyarkoma Obeng, Senior Claims Officer at Star Life as Project Officer; Nana Akosua Serwaa Asare, Underwriter at Phoenix Insurance Company, elected as Public Relations Officer; and Lilian Antwi Asante, Branch Manager at Provident Insurance, who is now Organizer at CILAG.
CILAG has also appointed several top insurance industry chieftains as Patrons of the Association. These are: Madam Lydia Bawa, former Commissioner of Insurance; Reverend Dr Abiba Zakariah, incumbent Insurance Commisioner; Adzo Dzidzoli, former General Manager (Technical) of Vanguard Assurance; Dr Mrs Fransisca Kakari, former Managing Director of GLICO General and founder of Liberty Insurance Brokers; Stephen Kwarteng Yeboah, Managing Director of Olea M&G Insurance Brokers and President-elect of Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana; Reverend Dr Elizabeth Wyns Dogbe, former Managing Director of SIC Life and CEO Pelmax Insurance Brokers; and Mrs Monica Amissah, former MD of Ghana Reinsurance PLC.
The Chairperson at the occasion was Nana Ama Tweneboah of W. Safe Reinsurance, while the Special Guest was Georgina Gyampah of SIC Insurance. The welcome address was delivered by Lady Margaret Ocansey Numo of Regal Risk Management while the keynote address was delivered by Lady Asare-Yeboah, President of the Institute of Directors, Ghana
Altogether nine lessons were read by various women insurance professionals, four of them followed by Christmas carols. These culminated in an Exhortation by the Methodist Church’s Very Reverend Isaac K. Hammond – head of Insurance at GCB Bank – before a traditional song, cutting of a cake and presentation of citations.
CILAG is established to provide a forum for developing and promoting insurance knowledge and penetration through a sustained dedication to the pursuit of ethical values in the Ghanaian insurance industry and by creating interactive platforms that support members in achieving their professional goals. Its membership has grown from 50 to over 400 and it has a financial welfare scheme for members.
The Association has inaugurated company representatives across the various insurance companies, hosted various Corporate Professional Development Programmes to enhance the competence and knowledge of its members, established the Best Female Student Award at the Ghana Insurance College and played a pivotal role in the formation of the African Insurance Women’s Association. It has also engaged in several impactful corporate social responsibility interventions.
