Midfielder Elisha Owusu has outlined Ghana’s bold ambitions for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing that the Black Stars are determined to make a significant impact rather than merely take part.
The four-time African champions will mark their fifth appearance at the global showpiece, set to be staged across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
After disappointing group-stage exits at the 2014 tournament in Brazil and the 2022 edition in Qatar, Owusu says the current squad is motivated to rewrite the narrative.
“Our main goal is to go far in the World Cup and to show the world that African football is feared,” the Black Stars midfielder told Flashscore.
“We won’t go there just to participate; we want to perform with humility and demonstrate what Ghana can do,” he added.
Ghana have been drawn into Group L, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia.
Under head coach Otto Addo, the Black Stars will kick off their campaign against Panama on June 17. They will then take on England on June 23, before concluding their group-stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27.
As part of preparations for the Mundial, Ghana are scheduled to regroup in March for international friendlies against Austria and Germany, followed by a final warm-up match against Mexico in May.
With renewed belief and clear intent, the Black Stars are setting their sights on a memorable campaign in 2026.
