Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, reportedly, held a crunch meeting with Ashanti Regional NPP Executives in Kumasi on Thursday.
The meeting was held in camera, and it was said to have been occasioned by the incarceration of Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Sources said Dr. Bawumia, who is the NPP flagbearer for the 2028 elections, charged the party executives not to lose hope, following the imprisonment of their chairman.
According to him, the party, at the national level, would not turn their backs on Wontumi in these trying moments of his life, assuring of the party’s full support for the incarcerated Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman.
Dr. Bawumia, who was accompanied by some NPP legal team members, reportedly highlighted legal steps the party is taking to help Wontumi to regain his freedom.
He, therefore, admonished the NPP Ashanti Regional Executives to stay united even in the face of this unfortunate incident.
Dr. Bawumia, the source said, urged every NPP member to show solidarity with Wontumi, noting that the incarcerated chairman needs the support of all.
Meanwhile, the Acting Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Patrick Acheampong, has stated that plans are in the pipeline to hold a candlelight vigil in Kumasi in solidarity with Wontumi, urging NPP members to remain calm as legal efforts to get Wontumi released is underway.
Patrick Acheampong also announced that the Ashanti Regional Executives of the party would visit Wontumi at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.
