Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has revealed he knew immediately that he had scored the best goal of his career after launching a stunning effort from inside Leicester City’s own half against Ipswich Town.
The Ghanaian winger produced a moment of brilliance at the King Power Stadium, taking three touches to escape two Ipswich players before spotting goalkeeper Christian Walton well off his line.
From just beyond the centre circle, Fatawu drove forward and unleashed a powerful shot that sailed over the scrambling Walton and into the net.
The strike, measured at 65.2 metres, is the longest-range goal recorded in the Championship since Opta began tracking data in the 2013â14 season. It put Leicester 2-0 ahead and set them on course for a 3â1 victory.
“I always try this from long range,” Fatawu told BBC Radio Leicester. “It’s good that it went in today, and I feel amazing. When I hit it, I didn’t have any doubts.”
Fatawu added that while he has scored from distance before, this goal stood apart. “I think this is the best one,” he said.
The attacker has been involved in 10 goals this season, scoring six and assisting four.
