Swedish club Degerfors IF have completed the signing of highly-rated Ghanaian midfielder Yiriyon Gideon, 18, on a loan deal with an option to buy, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.
Gideon joins Degerfors from Ghanaian outfit Inter Allies FC, having spent the latter part of the year on loan at Umea FC in Sweden.
During his spell at Umea, the teenage midfielder made 12 league appearances in the Superettan and registered two assists, catching the eye with a series of mature and energetic performances in midfield.
Degerfors’ sporting director Patrik Werner expressed strong belief in the youngster’s potential, describing him as a modern midfielder who has already shown remarkable composure despite his tender age.
“Yiriyon is a young, exciting midfielder who we have followed closely during the autumn in Umea. He has impressed greatly in Superettan and plays very maturely for his age.
"He works hard over large areas, contributes a lot in the game without the ball and is a skilled passer,” Werner said in a club statement."
Born and raised in rural Ghana, Gideon’s journey has been one of sacrifice and determination. At just 12 years old, he left his family to move to Kumasi, where he entered an academy-style environment that combined formal education with daily football training.
That experience laid a strong foundation for both his football development and personal growth.
His progress earned him a call-up to the Ghana U17 national team, where he featured in an international four-nation tournament against Serbia, Switzerland and Spain.
With Degerfors now securing his services until the summer, including a purchase option, Gideon has another major opportunity to continue his steady rise in European football.
