Ademola Lookman put on a brilliant show and was deservedly named Man of the Match as Nigeria cruised to a 4â0 win over Mozambique to book their place in the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals.
Operating from the left, he set the tone with the opening goal and never stopped tormenting the Mozambican defence.
Nigeria thought they had scored inside two minutes through Victor Osimhen, only for VAR to rule it out for offside, but the early scare for Mozambique was only a warning of what was coming. Lookman finally broke the deadlock on 20 minutes with a composed finish, rewarding his side’s relentless pressure.
Five minutes later, Osimhen doubled the lead, and after the break Lookman turned creator, sliding a precise pass for Osimhen to make it 3â0 in the 47th minute. Mozambique never recovered, struggling to build attacks as Nigeria pressed aggressively and controlled possession.
Substitute Akor Adams added a fourth in the 70th minute, crowning a complete team display.
With four straight wins and Lookman in sparkling form, Nigeria now waits to discover whether Algeria or DR Congo will stand between them and a place in the semi-finals.
