Chelsea’s appointment of Liam Rosenior as their new head coach carries a clear message to the squad, according to former Ghana coach Chris Hughton.
The 41-year-old Englishman has joined the Blues on a sive-and-a-half-year deal, with an option for an additional season, signaling stability and trust rather than a short-term gamble.
"At this moment in time, a six-and-a-half year contract says âwe’re not thinking this is a risk’⦠It is also a signal to the players," Hughton told The Telegraph.
"This is not somebody the club are giving a two-year contract, where the players are turning around and thinking âif it doesn’t work, then it doesn’t matter’. The players will be thinking âthis is somebody who is here to stay’."
Rosenior, who replaces Enzo Maresca following his departure on New Year’s Day, will watch Chelsea face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday before taking charge of his first training session on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Charlton Athletic.
Hughton, who managed Rosenior at Brighton, emphasized that the new Chelsea boss is not the type to simply follow instructions.
Rosenior also inherits a footballing lineage: he is the son of Leroy Rosenior, former Sierra Leone international and manager, reinforcing the family’s deep roots in leadership and the game.
