Holders Asante Kotoko secured a place in the MTN FA Cup Round of 16 after recording a narrow 1-0 victory over city rivals King Faisal on Wednesday afternoon.
The Kumasi derby was played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as part of the Round of 32 fixtures in the domestic cup competition, with both sides fielding strong line-ups in pursuit of qualification.
The contest was closely fought, with chances created at both ends, but it was Kotoko who made their opportunity count. Saaka Dauda scored the decisive goal in the closing minutes of the first half, a strike that ultimately separated the two teams after 90 minutes.
The win sends Asante Kotoko into the last 16 and keeps them on course to defend the MTN FA Cup they won last season.

However, the Porcupine Warriors will be aware that improvements will be required following their display against King Faisal if they are to mount a successful title defence later in the competition.
