Pep Guardiola is confident Antoine Semenyo will waste little time finding his feet at Manchester City, insisting the winger’s transition will be accelerated by the strength of the club’s environment and dressing room culture.
Speaking after the deal was completed, the City manager struck an assured tone, signalling immediate trust in his latest attacking addition.
Semenyo arrives at the Etihad at a critical moment. With injuries mounting and several players away on Africa Cup of Nations duty, City’s squad has been stretched during a demanding January schedule.
The timing of the move has therefore heightened expectations that the 26-year-old will contribute quickly rather than being eased in gradually.
Guardiola played down individual statistical targets, focusing instead on adaptation and collective strength.
“I don't know [if he will score 20+ goals]. He will adapt quick becuase the group is sensational. The club is really good and he will adapt quick.”
The former Bournemouth forward has committed his future to City by signing a five-and-a-half-year contract that runs until 2031.
That confidence is reflected in selection plans. Semenyo has already been named in the squad for Saturday’s FA Cup third-round clash against Exeter City and is also available for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg away to Newcastle, underlining the manager’s readiness to integrate him straight away.
