Ghana legend, Asamoah Gyan, has indicated that playing in the United Arab Emirates was the best moment in his career.
Gyan, after his explosive performance at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, joined Sunderland four-year deal for a club record £13 million from French side Stade Rennais.
However, the former Liberty Professionals striker made a shocking move to UAE side Al Ain on a loan deal from the Premier League side.
Despite the backlash and criticisms, Gyan said he had the best moment in his career while playing in the Gulf.
"Surprisingly, my best time was in the UAE. I did great, Sunderland, but unfortunately, I had to leave," he told Rio Ferdinand.
Gyan also opened up on how the deal was agreed.
"There were a lot of stories coming up at that time, but it was Sunderland who asked me to leave because of the deal that came in," he said.
"It was a loan deal, and the club felt they could capitalise on that deal. Thinking I could go for that deal, and then I will come back. That was what I was thinking at the time, but when I went there, I fell in love with the place, so I had to focus on the option to buy, and I went on to fall in love with the place," Gyan added.
Asamoah Gyan spent five seasons playing for Al Ain, scoring 95 goals in 83 appearances before moving to Chinese side Shanghai SIPG.
