The Ghana Football Association on Friday, January 23, 2026, officially launched the maiden edition of the FIFA U15 Girls Regional Colts Leagues at its headquarters, marking a significant step in strengthening Ghana’s women’s football development structure.
The initiative, rolled out under FIFA’s Women’s Football Development Programme, brought together key stakeholders including FIFA consultant Thuba Sibanda, members of the GFA Executive Council, Regional FA chairmen, technical experts, administrators, and young footballers.
GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, in his welcome address, stressed the need for collective responsibility and sustained commitment to ensure the success of the league and the growth of young female talent nationwide.
In his keynote speech, GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku expressed appreciation to FIFA for its continued support, describing the league as a product of vision, partnership, and deliberate investment. He noted that since 2019, the GFA has prioritised structured and sustainable investment in women’s football.
According to him, the U15 Girls Regional Colts Leagues provide, for the first time, a nationally coordinated pathway for girls under 15 across all football regions, while also promoting discipline, teamwork, and confidence beyond the pitch.
The event was attended by Dr Charles Osei Anto, Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, Regional FA chairmen, and other stakeholders committed to building a strong future for women’s football in Ghana.
