Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has expressed his satisfaction with the performance of summer signing Jeremie Frimpong but admits the club must carefully manage the Dutch defender's playing time due to his injury history and intense style of play.
Frimpong, who joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen ahead of the 2025-2026 season, has made 17 appearances across all competitions, contributing two goals and an assist from the right flank.
His pace and attacking drive have provided Liverpool with a significant outlet, particularly during Mohamed Salah's absence earlier in the campaign.
"One of the reasons Jeremie played so many games is because he was the only player before Mohamed Salah came back that I had for the right side," Slot explained in a press conference ahead of Liverpool's Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth.
While pleased with the impact, Slot acknowledged the inherent risk in Frimpong's current workload. "It's also a risk because he's been out quite long this season, and now he has to play almost every game," the manager stated. "He's, as you can see, an intense player. "He's so fast, so we have to take good care of him, but he's had a big impact since he's played."
Slot's comments highlight the delicate balance managers must strike between utilising a key player and protecting his long-term fitness. Frimpong's explosive speed and high-energy approach are central to his effectiveness but also contribute to the physical demands placed on his body.
Liverpool, currently fourth in the Premier League standings, will be hoping to integrate Salah back into the fold fully to help share the creative and goalscoring burden, potentially allowing for more managed minutes for Frimpong as the season enters a critical phase.
