Medeama SC further underlined their status as serious title contenders after a commanding 3â1 victory over Karela United on Sunday, extending their lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League table to eight points.
Experienced right-back Kamaradini Mamudu was the standout performer at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa, scoring twice to inspire another dominant display from the Mauve and Yellow.
Mamudu opened the scoring in the 14th minute before winger Derrick Fordjour doubled the advantage just four minutes later, giving the hosts a dream start.
Karela United briefly threatened a comeback when Solomon Aboagyen pulled one back in the 20th minute, but Medeama remained in complete control for much of the contest. Any lingering hopes for the visitors were extinguished in the 68th minute when Mamudu struck again to seal the win and cap an impressive individual performance.
Ibrahim Tanko’s side were superior throughout, dictating the tempo and asserting their authority to stretch their unbeaten run to an outstanding 17 matches in the Ghanaian top flight. The victory also marked Medeama’s fourth consecutive league win, further strengthening their title push.
With 43 points from 20 matches, Medeama now sit eight points clear at the summit, while Aduana FC and Asante Kotoko are locked on 35 points in second and third place respectively.
Karela United, meanwhile, drop to 10th on the table with 25 points, continuing a campaign marked by inconsistency as Medeama march confidently toward Premier League title contention.
