FC AshantiGold 04 have been dealt a major blow in their push for Ghana Premier League promotion after the GFA imposed a five-match home ban on the club for misconduct during an Access Bank Division One League fixture.
In an update released by the GFA Disciplinary Committee, AshantiGold 04 were also fined GHS 30,000 and issued a formal warning following incidents during their match against Sekondi Rospak FC. The club was found guilty of failing to ensure the safety of match officials, as well as the inappropriate behaviour of their supporters.
The home match ban takes immediate effect, while the fine is to be settled within 14 days of official notification. The GFA further cautioned that any future misconduct by the club would attract stiffer sanctions.
The decision comes at a critical stage of the season and could significantly affect AshantiGold 04’s promotion bid. The club is currently just one point behind the league leaders, with 13 matches remaining in the campaign. Being forced to play home fixtures away from their traditional base is likely to test their consistency and momentum in a tightly contested promotion race.
With the margins at the top extremely fine, AshantiGold 04 will now need to show resilience on the pitch and discipline off it as they seek to remain in contention for a return to the top flight.
