Former Hearts of Oak star Charles Taylor has urged the club’s leadership to honour the iconic â64 Battalions’ squad by naming sections of the Pobiman training complex after the players who defined a golden era in the club’s history.
Taylor believes such recognition would serve as a constant reminder of the standards and legacy that current players are expected to uphold.
Speaking to Angel FM, the former Black Stars attacker argued that the achievements of the 64 Battalions go beyond trophies and deserve visible acknowledgement within the club’s infrastructure.
“A board with pictures of the 64 battalions can be placed on the training ground of the players, making it easier for them to identify and appreciate those who laid the foundation for the club’s success,” Taylor said.
“The game played by the 64 battalions isn’t a game for kids. Others played before us, but we were able to achieve what no one has achieved.”
The 64 Battalions, led by legendary coach Cecil Jones Attuquayefio, secured Hearts of Oak’s only CAF Champions League title in 2000 after defeating Espérance de Tunis.
That triumph was followed by Ghana Premier League and FA Cup successes, completing a historic treble that remains a benchmark for the club.
