Former Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng has reiterated how he was forced to lie before getting the chance to play for Spanish giants FC Barcelona.
The 38-year-old signed for the La Liga club in 2019 on loan from Italian Serie A outfit Sassuolo.
At his press conference, Boateng described FC Barcelona as the best club in the world and also named Argentina superstar Lionel Messi as the best player in the world.
Seven years later, KP Boateng has stressed that those pronouncements were lies, necessary to ensure he played for Barcelona.
“When I signed for Barcelona, they told me: Your favourite team is Barcelona, and the best player in the world is Lionel Messi. I had to lie at another press conference in order to play, and without that, I would not have been able to play for Barcelona, it would have been impossible.
“I know this has happened to other players as well. I was sitting there at the press conference, and the first question I was asked was: Who is the best player in the world? And I answered: Lionel Messi,” KP Boateng shared during his appearance on a podcast.
