Ghana’s Black Princesses will host South Africa’s Basetsana in the first leg of their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off set for 3:30 pm local time.
The Black Princesses reached this stage following a dominant 4-0 aggregate victory over Tunisia, while South Africa advanced after an emphatic 9-0 win over Eswatini across two legs. The visitors made a strong statement with five goals in the first leg before sealing progression with a 4-0 win in the return fixture.
Ghana head into the encounter without leading scorer Mercy Attobrah, who is sidelined for the rest of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Attobrah netted three goals against Tunisia. Mary Amponsah is also unavailable due to club commitments. Despite the absences, head coach Charles Sampson remains confident and is targeting a home advantage to take into the second leg in Johannesburg.
South Africa arrive with an energetic squad, featuring several players who have impressed both locally and abroad. Their recent consistency in regional competitions makes them a difficult opponent.
With a place at the next World Cup in Poland at stake, both sides are expected to approach the tie with intensity, making the Accra clash a crucial first step in the qualification race.
