Watford FC have officially unveiled 35-year-old Ed Still as their new manager, handing him a two-and-a-half-year contract at Vicarage Road.
The announcement means Ghanaian midfielder Kwadwo Baah and defender James Abankwah will now begin working under their third manager of the season at the Championship club.
Still arrives after most recently serving ascaretaker managerr at Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht. He brings a diverse coaching portfolio from his time in Belgium, where he managed Royal Charleroi, K.A.S. Eupen and K.V. Kortrijk. Prior to that, Still worked asan assistantt to his brother Will at French side Lens, helping them secure an eighth-place finish in Ligue 1 during the 2024/25 campaign.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” Still told the club's official website. “I’m so thrilled and proud to be here. This is a club which has a big place in English football and a fantastic history.”
He outlined his immediate philosophy, stating, “All of the focus will be on winning games as quickly as possible and getting the best out of the players. Fans can expect our team to be aggressive, really compact defensively and attack with pace.”
Still’s multilingual ability â he is fluent in English and French â is expected to help him communicate effectively with a diverse squad that includes Ghana’s Baah and Abankwah, who will be looking to impress the new boss ahead of Watford’s push for a playoff place.
Watford Chairman and CEO Scott Duxbury expressed confidence in the appointment: “Ed is a coach whom this young group of players will quickly identify with. His modern and progressive coaching methods fit perfectly with our squad dynamic.”
The club also confirmed that interim manager Charlie Daniels, who oversaw the last two matches, will remain asfirst team coach,, alongside new addition Karim Belhocine.
Still’s first match in charge will be a challenging away trip to Preston North End on Saturday, February 14.
