Asante Kotoko’s Communication Director, Sarfo Duku, has said the club was “not surprised” by the resignation of head coach Karim Zito.
Zito stepped down on Monday following Kotoko’s FA Cup exit, a 4-2 penalty shootout defeat to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday. The club has appointed Prince Yaw Owusu as interim coach in the wake of Zito’s departure.
“We were not surprised, because we knew that the coach wasn't happy with the performance of his team, and so it didn't come to us as a surprise at all,” Sarfo Duku told Luv FM.
When pressed on whether the club had considered dismissing Zito, Duku was clear: “No, we had no plan to do that.
"We were to receive the details of what transpired in the course of the march. And then, of course, we have asked the necessary questions," he added.
The loss to Aduana extended Kotoko’s poor run, with just one victory in their last five matches across all competitions.
Attention now shifts to the Super Clash, where Kotoko will host fierce rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday in Matchday 22 of the league.
