Asante Kotoko’s Ashanti Regional Circles Chairman Alex Manu has expressed regret over the club’s handling of the former boss, stating that more patience should have been exercised.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Manu acknowledged Zito’s deep connection to the clubânot only as a coach but also as a former player who was part of Kotoko’s 1983 African Champions League-winning squadâand suggested that his legacy and understanding of the club merited greater faith during difficult times.
“He knows how important supporters are. But, apart from us, to me, we should have had a lot of patience with him,” Manu admitted.
Zito’s tenure ended on February 9, 2026, amid a challenging season that saw Kotoko trailing the league leaders by eight points and suffering early exits from both continental and domestic cup competitions.
While Manu also pointed to possible player-related issues affecting performance, his latest remarks underscore a belief that Zito’s situation might have been handled differentlyâwith time, trust, and support possibly yielding a turnaround.
The club now looks ahead to a crucial Super Clash against Hearts of Oak on February 15, as they seek to reset and reignite their campaign under new leadership.
Manu’s candid reflection serves as both an acknowledgement of a rushed decision and a lesson for the future: in a club where victory is demanded, patience with those who truly understand its soul may sometimes be the wisest path.
