The Ghana Football Association is fully aware of the enormous expectations resting on the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to Communications Director Henry Asante Twum.
Speaking in an interview with TV3, Asante Twum made it clear that Ghanaian fans, shaped by the nation’s proud football history, will accept nothing less than a strong performance on the global stage.
“When Ghana goes to every tournament, people are expectant. Expectations, for me, will never go down because we have a partisan crowd. We have people who love football, and they don’t care about excuses,” he said. “And it’s not as if we haven’t done it beforeâwe’ve done it before.”
He reflected on Ghana’s historic World Cup campaigns, including the memorable debut in 2006 when the Black Stars became the only African team to reach the Round of 16 and the iconic 2010 quarter-final run that united a continent.
He also acknowledged the disappointments of Brazil 2014 and Qatar 2022 but stressed that past setbacks have not diminished the public’s demand for success.
“Ghana will always go into competitions with huge expectations from the people, and this, for me, will now escalate that level of expectations. But the coaches are aware,” Asante Twum added.
The Black Stars have been drawn into a challenging Group L for the 2026 tournament, facing England, Croatia, and Panama. With head coach Otto Addo and his newly expanded technical team already deep in preparations, the road to the World Cup is now firmly in focus.
Asante Twum’s message is clear: excuses will not be entertained. The coaches understand the task ahead. And when Ghana steps onto the pitch in 2026, a football-loving nation will be watchingâexpecting nothing less than a fight.
