Former Hearts of Oak board member Frank Nelson has offered a candid assessment of his side's struggles in front of goal, acknowledging that the Phobians have not been clinical enough this seasonâbut insisting Sunday's Super Clash against Asante Kotoko will be the moment that changes.
Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, Nelson balanced honesty with unwavering belief as he previewed the highly anticipated showdown at Baba Yara Stadium.
"Our finishing has not been the best, and Kotoko's finishing has not been the best either, but I believe this Sunday will mark a turning point," he stated.
The admission comes as both Ghanaian giants prepare to meet with just one point separating them on the league tableâHearts in fourth with 36 points, Kotoko in fifth with 35. Neither side has been prolific this campaign, and Nelson is well aware that the team which finds its cutting edge in Kumasi will likely claim bragging rights.
Yet his confidence in Hearts' preparation and mentality remains unshaken.
"The players have been psyched up and they know what this game means," he emphasized. "We are coming to Kumasi this weekend with one objective â to make a difference."
Nelson reiterated his belief that the Phobians are ready to overturn recent history in the fixture.
"We are determined to rewrite history. It is true that Kotoko have had the upper hand over us in recent years, but this season we are determined to rewrite history."
While refusing to predict a specific scoreline, he left no ambiguity about his expectations:
"One thing is certain â Accra Hearts of Oak must win on that day."
With both teams searching for ruthlessness in the final third, Sunday's Super Clash may well be decided by which side finally puts its chances away. Nelson is betting it will be his.
