Ghanaian defender Issahaku Yakubu "Leftey" has completed a permanent move to Libyan giants Al-Ahli Tripoli from Egyptian Premier League side National Bank of Egypt SC in a deal worth a reported USD 600,000.
The transfer was finalised in the closing hours of the Libyan winter window on Friday after both clubs agreed on a fee to buy out the remainder of the 31-year-old’s contract, which was set to expire at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
Yakubu leaves National Bank after an impressive four-and-a-half-year stint, having joined from Wadi Degla SC in September 2021 following a successful spell.
He made 82 appearances for Wadi Degla where he scored twice and provided 12 assists in the process.
During his time at the Cairo-based club, he made 143 appearances, scored three goals and provided 20 assists.
This season alone, the versatile left-sided player featured in 14 league matches across all competitions and netted three times, playing a key role as National Bank climbed to ninth on the table with 21 points from 15 matches.
Comfortable at left-back and capable of operating further forward on the wing, Yakubu adds valuable experience and attacking quality to Al-Ahli Tripoli’s squad.
The Libyan side have been active in the market, also recruiting Blati Toure and Mustafa Shakshak from the Egyptian league.
Before moving to Egypt, Yakubu enjoyed spells in Europe with Lierse S.K. and GS Ergotelis.
