The CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final draw has set up a series of high-stakes regional rivalries following the ceremony held on Tuesday at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters in Cairo.
The standout tie is an all-Moroccan clash between Olympic Safi and Wydad AC. Safi reached the quarter-finals for the first time in their history after finishing second in Group A, but face a stern test against a Wydad side that topped Group B with authority.
The Botola Pro derby guarantees Morocco a place in the semi-finals, though it brings two domestic rivals together earlier than expected.
Elsewhere, Egypt’s Al Masry have been drawn against Algeria’s CR Belouizdad in another heavyweight encounter. Al Masry advanced on goal difference ahead of Kaizer Chiefs, setting up a renewal of the fierce Egypt-Algeria football rivalry.
Zamalek SC will meet AS Otohô of Congo, with the Egyptian giants considered among the favourites, while Maniema Union of DR Congo, also debutants at this stage, face experienced campaigners USM Alger.
First-leg matches are scheduled for 13-15 March, with return fixtures set for 20-22 March, as clubs battle for a place in the semi-finals.
