âDutch-Ghanaian winger Ernest Poku played a decisive role in Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-0 Champions League win away to Olympiacos, capping an impressive night with a clever assist.
With the last-16 play-off first leg score locked at 0-0, Poku unlocked the game on the hour, sliding a precise pass into the box for Patrik Schick to drill home the opener on 60 minutes.
The goal changed the momentum in Piraeus and Leverkusen needed only three more minutes to double their lead, Schick heading in a second from an Alejandro Grimaldo cross to put the Bundesliga side firmly in control of the tie. Poku, who started in the front line and constantly stretched the Olympiacos defence, left the pitch in the 76th minute to warm applause from the travelling fans after a tireless display.
The assist continues a solid Champions League campaign for the 22-year-old, who now has 9 appearances and 1 assist in the 2025/26 competition.
Leverkusen’s focus quickly turns back to domestic duty, with a Bundesliga trip to Union Berlin up next on Saturday afternoon.
