Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has backed the appointment of new members of the Black Stars technical staff.
On February 6, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed the appointment of five new members to beef up the technical team of the senior national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer.
Alain Ravera and Kim Lars Björkegren have both been named as the new assistant coaches.
Jose Daniel MartÃnez Alfonso has been appointed as analyst for the team, while Carlos Lozano Romero and Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi have also joined the backroom staff as psychologist and performance coach, respectively.
"We had a conversation to beef up the technical team. It is normal when national teams are going on such international assignments, they beef up their technical team," Mr Adams told Citi Sports.
"You're going to be playing constantly. Three games at the group stage, Round of 32, Round of 16, the quarterfinals, the semifinals and the finals, because we are not just going there to go and participate.
"If you don't prepare and then you get there, all of a sudden you cross the Round of 32, you are going to the Round of 16, and then you get to the quarterfinals. Is it then that you begin to call for additional hands? Maybe you need more masseuses, you need more of this, and you need more of that.
"Let's prepare right from the start. So beefing the technical team and beefing it with the right combination will go a long way to help. And so, the introduction of people who are not necessarily used to our game here," the Buem MP added.
The Black Stars, who are making their fifth appearance at the global showpiece, have been housed in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
The four-time African champions will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude group play against Croatia on June 27.
As part of their preparations, the Black Stars are scheduled to regroup in March for friendlies against Austria and Germany, before completing their build-up with a match against Mexico in May.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the team will be based at Bryant University in the United States for the duration of the tournament.
