The head coach of the Black Queens of Ghana, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, is backing the team as a contender to win the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
As part of the preparations for the upcoming tournament, the Black Queens are currently in Dubai, UAE, where they are participating in the 2026 Pink Ladies Cup.
At the four-nation tournament, Ghana’s women’s national team started with a thumping victory over Hong Kong in their first match, before dispatching Russia in a 4-0 crushing on Tuesday afternoon.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Kim Lars Bjorkegren described the win as a big statement, arguing that it shows the quality in the Black Queens and their potential to go all the way to win WAFCON 2026.
“I mean, the high potential in this group is top, top. It shows that we have the quality to go all the way [at WAFCON 2026] and beat all of the teams in Africa. It's not going to be easy. So, it's a separate style of football as well. I think they suit us pretty well in Russia. So, we need to have that in our mind. But, I mean, we can only do what we can do, and we did it today,” Kim Lars Bjorkegren said.
The Black Queens will conclude their campaign at the Pink Ladies Cup against Tanzania on Friday, March 6, 2026.
