Bibiani GoldStars head coach Fritz Schmid has urged fans to focus on the team’s consistent commitment rather than expecting a guaranteed successful title defence.
Speaking ahead of his side’s Matchday 25 encounter against Young Apostles in Wenchi, the Swiss tactician emphasised that âmaximum effort’ is the primary standard he expects from his players in every fixture.
“The fans should expect that the team always, always in any game, give their maximum effort. And I think the fans have had the opportunity to see that. And also, that’s why the fans give us their full support. Everybody is trying to push hard, but we also know there are a lot of opponents also chasing for the top position.”
This cautious stance comes at a critical juncture for the defending champions, who currently sit second in the standings with 45 points, trailing league leaders Medeama SC by only a single point.
The Miners enter the weekend in peak form, riding a four-match winning streak that includes a high-profile 2-1 victory over Hearts of Oak.
Despite this momentum, the wider title race remains razor-thin. GoldStars are one point behind leaders Medeama while traditional powerhouses Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko remain within striking distance in third and fourth place, respectively.
