Prince Osei Owusu has opened up on his decision to represent Ghana at senior level despite spending most of his international youth career with Germany.
The 29-year-old was born in Germany to Ghanaian parents and starred for the youth teams of the European nation at international tournaments.
However, last year, Owusu successfully completed his nationality switch, and made his debut for the Black Stars against Japan at the Kirin Cup tournament.
According to the striker, his family played an influential role in helping him chose the country of his parents over the nation of his birth.
"To be honest it was a longer though for me to play for my roots. I think players, it doesn't matter where you were born, I think you should represent the roots of your family and for me it was pretty clear I wanted to play for Ghana and represent Ghana and this makes my family proud. This was an easy answer for me," he told GhanaSoccernet in an exclusive interview.
The CF Montreal forward is expected to be named in the Black Stars squad for the international friendlies against Germany and Austria later this month. An opportunity for him to face the country that honed his skills.
"For me it is a very special game," he said in anticipation of the Germany friendly. "It will be a very very big day for me and my family and also my friends, but's all in God's hands and if I am invited I will be glad and happy but also I am focused to do a big performance and help the team," he added.
Owusu was Montreal's top scorer last season and opened his account for the new campaign on Sunday as the Canadian outfit thumped New York Red Bulls.
