Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has called for an intense preparation for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The four-time African champions will make their fifth appearance at the Mundial, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer.
Ghana will come up against Panama, England and Croatia in Group L.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, Mr Afriyie expressed optimism that the Black Stars will beat Panama in their opener but cautioned that the team must be prepared mentally and psychologically to be able to cause an upset against England.
“I don’t see it as an easy game for us, but if we get our rhythm right, everything is well in camp, the team is well prepared physically, psychologically and motivationally, and the boys are in the right frame of mind when they step onto the pitch, they can cause an upset against England," he said.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars, as part of their preparations, will come up against Austria and Germany later this month, followed by matches against Mexico in May and Wales on June 2.
Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, meet England on June 23, and close the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
Having exited at the group stage in both 2014 and 2022, the Black Stars are aiming for a more competitive showing in North America.
