Army Ladies secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Halifax Queens in matchday 16 of the Ghana Women’s Premier League Southern Zone at the Teshie Mats Park.
The decisive moment came in the 13th minute when a cross into the box was turned into her own net by Halifax defender Deborah Maccarty. Halifax Queens pushed strongly for an equaliser in the second half but could not break down a disciplined Army Ladies defence.
In another fixture, Samartex Ladies recorded a 2-1 win over Jonina Ladies. Alex Ibinabo opened the scoring for Samartex in the 14th minute before Joyce Atimbila levelled for Jonina Ladies in the 61st minute.
The hosts eventually sealed victory late in the match when Catherine Arthur converted a penalty in the 87th minute.
Elsewhere, Oak Ladies produced one of the standout results of the round with a 2-1 victory over reigning champions Police Ladies at the Alajo Astro Turf.
Police Ladies had taken the lead through Phility Asuako in the ninth minute, but Gifty Addai Boakye equalised before Evelyn Terkunor scored the winner in the 65th minute.
The result means Oak Ladies have now completed a league double over the defending champions this season.
