German-born Ghanaian winger Ernest Poku has disclosed his desire to play at the FIFA World Cup.
The 22-year-old, born in Germany to Ghanaian parents, moved to the Netherlands at a tender age and has already represented the Dutch youth teams at international level.
However, he remains eligible to pick from Ghana, Germany and the Netherlands at senior level.
"Of course, but the only thing I can do is my best," he told Sportsnieuws when asked about the World Cup. "Those are options (Germany, Ghana and Holland) too, but I haven't heard anything from any of the three yet. I can only waitâ¦" he added.
Despite admitting he is yet to receive an official invite from the Ghana Football Association, Poku revealed that he has been contacted by several individuals from the West African nation, but directed them to his agent.
"I have heard a few things from Ghana, but those are just fifteen people messaging me and saying they work there. Ultimately, you don't know what to believe anymore. I have indicated that they shouldn't communicate with me. If that is the case, I will hear it from my agent," said Poku.
The youngster is currently in the U21 camp of the Netherlands preparing for their game against Norway.
Poku has had an outstanding start to his career with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, scoring five goals and delivering four assists in 22 matches.
