Former Black Stars coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor beleives the technical team of the Black Stars are capable of delivering at the 2026 World Cup.
The technical team of the senior national team have been reinforced ahead of the Mundial slated for this summer in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
French tactician Alain Ravera and Black Queens coach Kim Lars Björkegren have joined as assistant coaches, while Jose Daniel Martinez Alfonso from Atalanta FC takes on the role of Performance Analyst.
Carlos Lozano Romero, who was part of Ghana’s 2022 World Cup squad in Qatar, returns as Physiotherapist, and Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi serves as Performance Coach.
Despite leaving out some names ahead of the upcoming friendly games, Akonnor, who coached the senior national team from January 2020 to September 2021, says the focus should remain firmly on the current coach’s authority and long-term vision.
“To me, the coach [Otto Addo] must be given space to do his work. The major thing is for the technical team to have peace of mind to work,” he told the Daily Graphic.
“What is important is that the technical team has been strengthened; these are very capable men," Akonnor, who now serves as the head coach of Kenyan side Gor Mahia, added.
The Black Stars are currently in Vienna preparing for their friendly tie against Austria on Friday, March 27, at the Ernst Happel Stadium before heading to Stuttgart, Germany, for another friendly on Monday, March 30.
